Secondary Natural Sciences School “Academician Boyan Petkanchin” was founded in 1972. It is one of the first schools in the country, set up to provide the students specialized secondary education in the subject of Mathematics. Profiling subjects of the school are Mathematics, Informatics and Information Technologies, English as a foreign language, Biology, Chemistry and History. This school year 2017/2018 there are 725 students at the age of 13 to 19 years and 52 teachers. Until now it has prepared over 4,700 young people who have continued their academic studies at universities in Bulgaria, Germany, Denmark, Netherlands, the UK and the USA. In January 2015, a project, including transformation and modernization of the school equipment, was implemented. It was granted by the Foundation America for Bulgaria that provided modern computers, laboratory and presentation equipment, smart boards, software products and modern training aids and materials.One of the main objectives of the school development strategy is connected with the continuous development of the teachers in the quickly changeable contemporary world, acquiring knowledge and experience to use new technologies in order to achieve high quality in education. The school provides a variety of extracurricular activities, most of them financed by EU structural funds, in the field of Mathematics, IT, Sports, Arts, Foreign Languages, Ecology and Science. It is awarded as Microsoft Innovative School and Microsoft Showcase School and it has already met the eTwinning school criteria. We are highly motivated to join this project in order to develop our school into innovative with students trained to meet the requirements of 21 century.

Our school is situated in Benalmádena, at the very heart of the Costa del Sol, a town close to Málaga in Andalusia, Spain. We have around 900 students from 30 different countries, aged from 3 to 17 (Nursery, Primary, Secondary and Baccalaureate). 100 people–teachers, support/assistant teachers and non-teaching staff are also part of Maravillas school, which has been operating for 45 years as an example of educational excellence in the area. We are a bilingual school with outstanding academic results. This success is the result of a well-trained, qualified and very stable teaching staff, together with the very active participated families and with the excellent working plans designed by the different Departments. Our Erasmus team will be made up of 13 members from different departments coordinated by Daniel Macías (Social Sciences teacher). He is one of the managing directors of the theater group. In 2015 he took part in a Coaching course financed by the Erasmus+ Program in Poland; and during the last school year he gave theater master classes to foreign students as part of an Erasmus+ Program. His substitute will be Juan Manuel Castillo (Head of the Humanities Department), coordinator of the Cinema Project and Technical Director for the Theater group. We can mention the projects created by Departments like Natural Science, which has International Awards received at international congresses in Stockholm and Budapest; the Humanities Department and its theater group Alezeiateatro, with more than 100 students participating, including parents, teachers and staff, have received more than 70 scholar awards, much of them with national recognition. We have excelled too in handball and beach handball. Today we compete in 7 categories with more than 180 players; and we have been recognized even at the national levels. Also, worth mentioning is the Maravillas School Debate team, which was proclaimed winners in 2015. Our center is also a pioneer in the organization of cultural activities, like an open exhibition space, and the project School Cinema Week, certificated as an official activity for the celebration of the 400 Years of Relationships between Japan and Spain. It should be noted that Maravillas school has prepared and enrolled candidates for Cambridge English Language Assessment Exams and we have Microsoft IT Academy courses.

With 400 students ranging from 16 to 19 years of age Mikael Elias Theoretical School is a Secondary shool that have 4 special profiles programmes. These are Natural Sciences program, Technical Sciences program, Social sciences and Economic sciences programmes. The school was was founded in 2008 by Josef Elias to honor his father Mikael Elias. Mikael Elias, born in 1923 in Kretshnif Romania, was a roman-swedish entrepeneur that came as an immigrant to Sweden from Romania in the 1960’ies and developed a big swedish education company ”The Nordic Technic Institute ” (Nordens Tecknikerinstitut AB, NTI). The Name of the school is hence Mikael Elias Theoretical school and the aim of the school is to give high level education in these four specialised programmes and to prepare the students for theoretical academic studies in different areas. In the Economic program we give our students entrepreneurial skills and encourage students to be involved in their own learning process. The way we do that is be giving them the chance to start their own enterprise and run this company for a year. In the Technical and Natural Sciences programmes the focus is on technological subjects, maths, physics and chemistry and the teachers have a cooperation with teachers from University of Stockholm and KTH The Royal Technological University. In Social sciences programmes we make the students learn politics through different rolegames where students meet students from other secondary schools in Stockholm and in the end they will meet with elected politicians to forward their thaughts to them. We also let the students in all programmes lead lessons, which gives them good practice in making presentations and speak in front of others. In education the students use digital platforms and digital classrooms as one way to reinforce the learning process.

Our school is located about 5 km away from Aveiro, in Cacia. In its main building we have 4 classes from the 5th; 5 from the 6th year; 5 classes from the 7th; 3 from the 8th and 3 from the 9th year. Our students are aged between 9-10 to 14-16. Our group of schools also integrates some kindergartens and primary schools around the main geographical area. Our main objectives with these structured courses is to give them basic schollarity through a more practical curriculum according to their needs and interests. It is also one of our main goals to increase the ability to address the needs of the disadvantaged towards a future career option because these specific students have already lost more then two years at school. Our students are quite active and collaborative, they like new challenges and our teachers are looking forward to start this project. Our school staff is used to participate in our school activities and we all work as a whole. Our school has been participating in some important and interesting projects all these years: European Project Trends- E-learning for teachers; Aveiro digital; Eco-Schools; Microsoft Partnership for School Development; “Reagir”; School Sports Club(s) - in seven different sports / activities, among many others. And we always finish our school year with a medieval fair organized and produced by teachers, students, parents, school staff, and we have a lot of fun besides the hard work! Next to our school we have some big important factories: Renault; Portucel (huge paper factory), Bosch and others. We are partners and sometimes some projects are developed with them. We are pedagogically organized in departments: Languages (Portuguese, English, French); Sciences (Maths, Science, Chemistry and Physics, Informatics) Social and Human Sciences (History, Geography, Religious Education); Arts, Music and Sports (Visual Education, Crafts, Physical Education, Music and Special Needs Education).
